Meet Christopher Peters!

Christopher Peters is a lifelong Lake Hopatcong resident, husband, dog-dad and small business owner. He was born in Hopatcong and his family moved to Jefferson Township when he was 4 years old. He attended school here, enjoyed his childhood here and recalls that some of his best memories in town were boating on Lake Hopatcong or camping and exploring our parklands.

After high school, Chris worked full time to pay for tuition while attending County College of Morris and then later, William Paterson University, graduating with a bachelors in Business Management.  He thrived in management roles in which he earned growing responsibility putting processes in place and balancing customer and worker needs with profits, budgets, and investors’ expectations.  

In 2008, he bought his first home in Jefferson.  He believes our town offered everything a person could want in a New Jersey community, with lake access, space, good neighbors and then-reasonable taxes.  

Some time later, he took a chance on himself and his skills and opened a small business specializing in repair and restoration: values important to him. Being a small business owner has only reinforced his core beliefs that responsible budgeting, accountability to others, and making decisions based on what provides the best value leads to positive results. 

What drives Christopher Peters to run for Township Council is a commitment to transparency, responsible government, and conservative management of the tax dollars we all work hard to pay.  Jefferson Township has changing needs with a growing senior demographic, the need for funding of the Highlands Act to protect our natural resources and prevent poor decisions with town planning, all while continuing to explore smart infrastructure and strategies to maintain affordability. There’s a need to strike a careful balance between these priorities, and with good leadership and transparent government, it can be done.

Chris believe we can plan strategically for growth without sacrificing the green spaces, neighborhoods, and quality of life that make Jefferson special. Most importantly, he want to represent all Jefferson residents. Not just the ones in his political party, and not just the interests of one political party.
